Keeffe, Ó Caoimh

Ó Caoimh comes from the word “caomh” which means ‘gentle’ or ‘kind’. The family is descended from Art Ó Caom, who himself was descended from the King of Munster. The clan’s territory was originally along the river Blackwater in Cork, however they subsequently moved to Duhallow country, which became known as Pobal O’ Keeffe. O’ Keefe is among the 100 most numerous surnames in Ireland, and is most common in Co. Cork.
